A BROTHER KNOWS

The cattle
drive was long. Pa needed his sons…Pa needed him. This was no time
to be sick. Yet, he couldn’t control the tremors that attacked
him.
Joe sagged
against a tree when they made camp.
Joe tried to
keep strong…no one would know.
“Joe, look
at me.”
Adam took
Joe by the shoulder and stared at him. Joe’s eyes were glassy…his face
was wracked with pain.
“Joe, how
long?”
“Adam…” He
tried to be strong but his voice cracked and he collapsed.
“Joe…hold
on…”
Joe tried
to be strong…but an older brother always knows!
