A Brother Knows II

By Lillian

HOSS FELT THE HEAT EMANATING FROM THE DARK CLOTHES.  ADAM’S HEAD STAYED BENT AMID THE LEDGERS.

HIS HEAD THROBBED WITH A VENGEANCE…HIS BODY UNDER RELENTLESS ATTACK.

HOSS DIDN’T HESITATE.  HE KNEW WHAT TO DO.

“ADAM, SIT UP!”

“WHAT…?”

“KEEP QUIET AND LISTEN TO ME…SIT UP STRAIGHT.”

TOO TIRED TO ARGUE, ADAM LIFTED HIS HEAD AND LEANED BACK.

HOSS BEGAN TO MASSAGE ADAM’S HEAD…HIS SHOULDERS…HIS TEMPLES.

GENTLY…EVER SO GENTLY…

WITHIN MOMENTS A SOFT SNORE ESCAPED ADAM’S LIPS.

SWEET SLUMBER.

HOSS SMILED, “I DON’T KNOW THE BOOKS…BUT I KNOW WHAT MY BROTHER NEEDS.”

A BROTHER KNOWS.
