MY LITTLE BROTHER

as told by 8 1/2 year old Hoss

By Lynne G.

In school we had to write an essay about someone in our family.  So I thought I would write about my baby brother, Little Joe.  So here's what I wrote about him.

" My Little Brother, Little Joe "

I really love being a big brother to Little Joe.  He is 6 1/2 years younger than me.  I also have a big brother named Adam and he is 6 years older than me.

Little Joe is now two years old.  He is very silly and always into mischief.  When he was baby, he use to love to blow his food right out of his mouth.  Adam and me would laugh at him when he did that, cos he looked so funny and he sounded funny too.  Pa and mama didn't laugh, cos they didn't think it was so funny.  Mama said it made a big mess.  When Adam and me would laugh, it made Little Joe blow even more food out of his mouth, and then he would giggle at us.

One day at breakfast, Little Joe decided to pick up his bowl of cereal and he put it on top of his head-upside down.  Ya shoulda seen him with cereal runnin' down his head.  I fell out of my chair from laughin' so hard.  Adam was lauhgin' too.  Pa was trying not laugh, but he ended up laughin'.  Little Joe was gigglin' really hard too, but mama wasn't laughin' at all.

Little Joe dumped his bowl of food over his head a lot with all kinds of food.  Sometimes he would grab handfuls of food and rub it in his hair, and he would sit there gigglin' at that too.  He ended up havin' to have a lot of baths

Another time Little Joe wanted to bite everyone.  I thought only animals would bite, but my baby brother wasn't an animal.  Nope, he's just a little baby boy person.  Mama said that when babies start to get their teeth, they want to bite everything in sight.  He has lots of teeth now, and he doesn't bite us anymore.

When he got a little bigger, he learned how to crawl.  He always giggled as he crawled along.  I use to get on my knee's with him, and we would race.  He was so fast.  Then there was no stopping him.

Then he learned how to walk, but he would rather be running.  He gets into everything, and he goes everywhere too.  It's really hard to keep him off of the stairs too.

You should see him comin' down the stairs.  He plops down on his little bottom on each step as he comes down.  He always has the biggest smile on his face too.  He can go up the steps fast, but he is very careful when he is on the stairs.  Mama gets tired trying to keep up with him. He is always gigglin', and everything is funny to him.

Little Joe loves to take his diapers off, and run around naked.  When it's hot weather, mama only dresses him in his little diapers and a shirt, but he soon takes off his diaper and shirt and off he goes, running as fast as his little legs will take him, totally naked.

He did that at the church picnic one Sunday.  He fell asleep on our blanket, and the next thing we knew, there he was running all over the picnic grounds totally naked, with mama chasing after him.  You could hear him gigglin' as he ran.  Everyone was laughin' at him, cos he looked so funny trying to get away from mama.  Pa and mama weren't laughin' at all.  Adam just sat there with a red face and slowly shakin' his head, but I was laughin'.

Little Joe is even funny at bath time.  He loves to splash water everywhere, and who ever is givin' him his bath, gets all wet too.  Ya really gotta watch him when he's in the tub, cos he will climb right out of it, and take off running and gigglin' . One day he got out of the tub while mama went to get somethin' in the kitchen, and he climbed out of the tub and ran right out the door, and into the yard.  He got down in the dirt and he rolled around in it.  He was so dirty, and gigglin' like crazy.  Poor mama just stood there in shock at the sight of her wet baby boy rolling in the dirt.  So he had to have another bath.

Little Joe is always trying to talk, but he can't pronounce too many words yet, but he sure tries.  He sounds so funny while he tries to talk too.  He says everything we say, so we gotta watch out what we say.

If he is gettin' into mischief, we say, " NO NO ", and he stands there looking at us and he is shakin' his head from side to side, and he says, "NO NO " right back to us.  It's just so hard not to laugh at him.  He's just too darn cute !  There's no way you can get mad at him.  The way he looks up at you with his huge green eyes, and " that " big smile of his.  It just melts yer heart.

When you ask him what is your name, he gets " that " smile on his face and he says, " NO NO Idell Doe."

I love him so much. He's just the best little brother in the whole wide world.  My baby brother, Little Joe.

THE END
