Though this story may be considered a sequel to my story "Poltergeist," it can and does stand independently.

Summary: Benjy manifests the symptoms of an illness that claimed the life of a family who once had their farm where the Cartwright family has since built their house. Doctor Martin suspects the boy's sickness is more psychological in nature, rather than physical. If Adam, Teresa, and the rest of the family can't find and deal with the source of Benjy's problems, they may end up losing him.

Summary: Cousin Clarissa secretly makes the necessary arrangements for Stacy to attend a finishing school in Boston, whether Ben, Hoss, and Joe like the idea or not, even though it may mean dragging the girl kicking and screaming across country. Part of the series begun in "Bloodlines" and includes the addition of a non-cannon character.

Title:  Trial by Fire, part 1
Rated: R for strong language, nudity, and violence, which includes psychological torture. May not be suitable for all readers.
Summary: My version of WHN after "The Countess." The Cartwrights' home is destroyed by fire. In the aftermath, Stacy is left badly injured and Joe missing. To give credit where it's due, when I posted "The Guardian" on another site, a reader by the name of Susie DiCarlo said in her feedback that she felt that story ended too soon after Joe's rescue and expressed a desire to see more of the comfort in the wake of the hurt. Her words were the seed of inspiration that finally germinated into "Trial By Fire."

Summary: Roy Coffee investigates the fire that has destroyed the Cartwrights' home, and tries to determine whether Joe Cartwright might still be alive, though missing . . . of if he perished in the fire as the evidence seems to suggest. Stacy, meanwhile, faces surgery in which her chances of survival stand at fifty-fifty.

Summary: The only clue Ben and Hoss have regarding Joe's whereabouts is an address in Carson City. What they find there shocks both men to the very core of their beings.

Summary: Still haunted by the death of his wife six years before, Joe seeks comfort in strong drink. Will his family ties be enough to save him? This story is based on an idea given to me by another fan who goes by Australian and Joe's AussieFan.
