Summary:  Before: On his way home from a trip to Yuma, Arizona, Ben is ambushed and a blow to the head causes him to lose his memory. Just hours later, a body is discovered on the road coming into Yuma. The man's face is beyond recognition, but on the inside of his hat a name is distinctly printed: Ben Cartwright.
With Adam and Hoss on a cattle drive, Joe is the only one home when word reaches the Ponderosa of Ben's death and burial in Yuma. Overcome with grief he sets off towards Yuma to investigate the circumstances of his father's death.

Title:  To Remember Always

Summary:  Joe returns home late from a trip and finds that Ben, realizing Joe was going to be late, has sent Hoss to Pineville in place of him. All seems well until Ben and Joe receive a telegraph from Pineville informing them of an unfortunate shootout resulting in Hoss's death. As Ben needs time too himself to grieve, it is up to his youngest son to pick up the responsibilities around the ranch and push aside his own feelings to allow his father this time. Moving from one responsibility to the next keeps Joe from thinking about the tremendous loss he feels until a couple of days later when he comes across a letter in his father's desk addressed to him.........from his brother, Hoss.

just Devon's son Jimmy would like to finish the job.

Summary:  When Richard Darvey is out for revenge on Ben Cartwright for the death of his son, Joe must decide how much he is willing to give to protect his father. When Darvey fails to claim his revenge on the Cartwrights it becomes quite clear that somone other then Darvey will stop at nothing to see both Ben and Joe dead.

Summary:  When Danny Morris, a friend of Joe's whom he taught how to handle a gun, murders Laura Peterson and escapes with her money, Joe feels responsible and goes after Danny along with Adam and Hoss. The ordeals and trials faced by the three of them, especially Joe, draw the ties that bind them closer together and reveal the growth in Joe's mind and character.
