Does cold water clean as well as hot water??
Adam, Hoss and Little Joe Cartwright went to visit an old prospector pal of
their fathers. His name was Otis and he lived in a very secluded, mountain area
of the territory. Otis lived in a modest shack with three dogs for company
and protection.
After spending the night in the small shack, the old prospector
prepared breakfast for the Cartwrights consisting of coffee, biscuits and
bacon.
Hoss was starving and started to eat. Little Joe was hardly awake and was
sipping at that first cup of coffee. Adam, more alert and aware noticed a
film-like substance on his tin plate and he questioned Otis. "Are these plates clean,
Otis?"
The old prospector replied...."Those plates are as clean as cold water, elbow
grease and hard work can get them so go on and finish up your meal."
That afternoon, while eating the fried ham and potatoes the old prospector
made for
lunch, Little Joe noticed tiny specks around the edge of his plate, and a
substance that looked like dried egg yolks. So he asked again, "Are you
sure these plates are clean, Otis?"
Without looking up from his fried chicken, Otis says, "I told you
before, those dishes are as clean as cold water, elbow grease and hard work
can get them, now don't ask me about it anymore, boy!"
Later that afternoon, as Hoss was on his way out to tend the horses, the dogs
started to growl and would not let him pass.
"Otis, your dogs won't let Hoss go out," Little Joe complained.
Without diverting his attention from the checker game he was playing with
Adam, the old prospector
shouted, "Coldwater, Elbow Grease! Hard Work move!"
