" Hey Hoss, whatch think Pa's gonna do ta us when he finds out what
we sorta done ?" a very nervous Little Joe asked his cellmate and big
brother Hoss.
" I don't know, but dadburn ya little brother, I promised Pa that I
would keep you out of trouble and looked what ya done !" Hoss angrily
stated as he glared at his younger brother.
" But Hoss, it wasn't my fault. Heck how was I ta know that all them
ladies in Virginia City would start that big old riot over me. I'm just
an innocent boy after all," Little Joe declared as he gave Hoss that
' melt your heart look'.
"Well, let me tell ya something little brother, you are a TROUBLE MAKER
and that's the truth ! " Hoss replied as he continued to glare at Little
Joe.
" I tell ya Hoss, when them ladies attacked me, I thought fer sure
that I was gonna die ! I was scared ya know," the boy added.
" When Pa finds out whatcha done, you are gonna die," Hoss suggested.
Little Joe suddenly felt ill.
Both boys looked up as soon as they heard the door to the cells open, and
their oldest brother Adam came slowly walking in with a very discussed look
on his face. They both swallowed hard knowing that words would soon be loudly
said.
Adam stood there and stared at his two younger brothers and he wasn't sure
whether to laugh at the looks on their faces or be upset at them, which
he was.
" Howdy Adam, what's new?" Hoss said. It was the only thing he
could say at that moment.
Adam just looked at the boys behind bars knowing an interesting answer would
soon be heard.
" Well baby brother, would care to explain to me why you and Hoss are
in jail for causing the women of Virginia City to riot ?" Adam demanded.
Little Joe looked up at Hoss hoping for some help with that answer, but
Hoss simply said, " You go and tell Adam what he wants to know baby
brother."
Looking at Hoss and back at Adam, Little Joe took a deep breath and began
his short tale of why the women of Virginia City had started to riot over
him.
" Um...well....Ummm...it was like this Adam. Me and Hoss came ta town
ta pick up the mail just like Pa told us ta do. That's all we done, but
it was so quiet in town, so I got this here idea ta liven things up a bit.
Just a bit ya know."
" Well, there was two really good lookin' ladies standin' there lookin'
kinda bored, when one of them ladies said that I was was so cute ! "
" Only two ladies ?" Adam interrupted.
" Yup two ladies at first, but then more ladies showed up and they
too said I was cute. I am ya know," Little Joe continued while Adam
just shook his head and rolled his eyes towards the heavens above.
" Yeah, and that's what caused all them ladies to start this whole
big mess Adam !" Hoss needed to say.
" Please continue on cute little boy," Adam demanded. " Well
anyhow, one of them ladies put her hands on my...hips and ya gotta believe
me Adam, that scared me ! It really did. I started ta wiggle in order to
get away from her and her hands and another lady told me ta dance real sexy
like, so I did," Little Joe continued explain.
" Hey Adam, you should have seen all them sexy moves our little brother
did," Hoss proudly said with a big smile on his face. " Yup, I
sure dun some sexy moves alright big brother. Remind me one day and I'll
teach ya how ta do some," the youngster proudly said.
Adam put his hands over his face and he felt like pounding his baby brother.
" No fifteen year old boy should know how to do sexy moves yet ",
Adam almost shouted. Now Little Joe was getting even more nervous.
" Let me do the talking now little brother," Hoss suggested for
which the boy was grateful for.
" You should have seen them ladies Adam. They couldn't control themselves
and they was tryin' to attack baby brother, and then they dun started to
fight each other and yelling at each other that Little Joe was theirs."
" One lady named Connie grabbed little brother and started to carry
him away, but them other ladies were tryin' to pull little brother away
from Connie. He was screamin' fer help when they dun tried to pull his clothes
off." Little Joe nodded about that.
" I had to rescue him Adam. Couldn't let them ladies hurt baby brother
and take his clothes off of him now could I ?" Hoss explained. "
I can see your point there Hoss. Couldn't let baby brother get hurt or Pa
would never forgive us," Adam replied.
" Connie then pushed little brother in the water trough and as he tried
to climb out, she jumped in the trough and pulled him back in the water,"
Hoss told Adam who was starting to get a headache from what he was hearing.
" Yeah, she tried ta drown me Adam !" Little Joe declared as he
looked at Adam.
" By then Roy and Clem came to stop the riot, while I got little brother
out of the trough. They was finally able to get the riot stopped and the
ladies went away-thank goodness, but then Roy who wasn't very happy at the
riot, made me and little brother follow him to jail, and dadburnit, he put
us in jail for our own good so he says," Hoss explained. " Yeah
!" Little Joe added. " So I see !" Adam declared.
" Adam, please say something," Hoss asked as he looked at his
big brother. Little Joe looked at the floor. " Aw....shucks Adam, t'
weren't our fault that them ladies started that dadburn riot and almost
took baby brother apart either and he can't help it that he's just too darn
cute," Hoss said.
" No he can't help being too cute now can he?" Adam said as he
looked at his baby brother who had a big smile on his face. " Yup,
I'm just too cute for all the ladies of Virginia City !" the youngster
declared as he puffed out his chest feeling very proud indeed and he batted
his long thick eye lashes at Adam, trying to look innocent.
" I should have Roy keep you two in here, but there are chores that
need to be done at home, so I will get him to unlock the door so you two
can get out."
" Once we get out of here, you both go down to the stable and get your
horses and meet me back here, and you baby brother no sexy walking now-do
you hear me ?"
" Don't worry big brother I'll behave myself," the boy replied.
Adam thought, " Yeah, that will be the day."
When Hoss and Little Joe returned with their horses the Cartwright brothers
headed for home. As they rode, Hoss whispered in Adam's ear, " Sometimes
baby brother is nothing but trouble !" " Tell me about it. He's
been trouble for fifteen years now, " Adam laughed which made Hoss
laugh as well.
