A DREAM

For a while Adam Cartwright and Laura Dayton hadn’t seen each other. That
came because right after their honeymoon there was more than enough work
at
the Ponderosa. Where under the round up of the herd and the branding of
the
young cattle.
Laura wasn’t well for a while but when Adam came home again that nasty
feeling disappeared.
“Darling, I am home again”, he called at the frontdoor.
Laura got up and walked towards him.
“Darling, we have missed you so”, she said smiling.
Adam took his wife into his arms and kissed her.
“Look out as my belly is in between it”, she said warning.
She pushed him a bit further away from her and looked at her belly.
“What is the matter with your belly?”, Adam asked amazed.
“It gets rounder each day”, replied Laura.
“Our baby?”, Adam asked amazed.
His wife nodded.
“When does it come?”, Adam asked smiling.
“About 4 months time”, replied Laura.
“What does Peggy think of it?”, asked Adam.
“Great. She is thrilled with you and now she is getting a little brother
or
a sister from us together she is really happy. And so am I”, said Laura.
Peggy was the daughter of Laura from her first marriage.
Laura and Adam looked at the photo which was made of their and Adam for
their wedding.
Laura thought:‘Oh Will...Will...Will...’
Adam thought:‘Thank you Will...thank you!!’ Before she married Adam trouwde
ging Laura dated his cousin Will Cartwright but he didn’t care anything
about Peggy so that it was clear for Laura.
During supper Peggy asked suddenly, Mom, do I get a little brother or a
sister?”
“I don’t know yet. We know it when it is born”, replied Laura.
“What do you prefer?”, asked Adam.
“It doesn’t really matter to me”, was the answer.
Laura looked at her belly and said, “I believe that I am expecting a boy.
I
am now a bit bigger than when I was 5 months pregnant with Peggy.”
The extent of Laura became bigger all the time and she got a lot of support
of Adam and Peggy.
One morning Peggy was busy with breakfast when Adam came into the kitchen.
“Where is mamma?”, asked his stepdaugther.
“In bed”, said Adam.
Laura laid in bed with her big belly and knew that it wouldn’t be long
before the child would come. She tried to get some more sleep but through
her belly it failed. When Adam came in with the breakfast tray Laura went
to
sit carefully. She grabbed her belly at once.
“Adam, the baby is coming”, said Laura.
Adam put the tray down and went to sit with his wife.
“I thought that it was false alarm but it is réál”, said Laura.
She went to lie down again and felt a contraction coming up.
“I let Peggy to get the doctor”, Adam said calm.
Hen went to the kitchen and said, “The baby is on its way. You go and get
the doctor.”
Peggy went away at once. Adam went back to Laura who already had heavy pains
“The doctor will never come in time as I already feel it coming”, Laura
said
gasping.
Adam put the blankets away and checked his delivering wife.
“Adam, you réálly must help me now”, said Laura.
“Go and push. I will help you”, said Adam.
Laura pushed hard and screamed it out due to the pain.
“Just a while and then the baby is born”, Adam said whenhe saw the head.
Laura went to push again and felt the baby coming. Adam received the baby
and saw right away what they had gotten.
“It is a boy”, he said smiling.
He put the baby by the mother who began to cry spontaneously.
The crowing of the rooster made Adam wake up and he was deliriously glad
with that. He realised that he had dreamed it all and that he réálly
hadn’t
embarked on matrimony with Laura Dayton.
