"Man, that dream I had last night sure was a real one! Did you ever
have a dream where everybody was naked? " Hoss squeezed his eyes to
narrow slits and waited for the inevitable incredulity
"Noo, but nothing that happens to you surprsises me much." Adam
slyed
"Tell us all about it, Hoss !" Joe's eyes grew to saucer sized
at the thought of a "naked" Mary Sue.
"Well, I'll tell you, it's like this here. Take these potatoes, for
instance..." Hoss mused at the piled up lump on his tin plate
" I know this, I've seen this shape before..."
"It just looks like what a four year old does, playing with his food.
But go ahead" Adam smiled
"Dang it! I know what this is! But, anyhow, there you were Adam, naked
as a jay-bird except for that enormous handle-bar moustache, and Joe was
wrapped in cell-o-phane!"
"Geez, and I thought I could have fun being naked"
Joe giggled
So here I was, faced with climbing the pile of potatoes when I suddenly
realized that I had to find where the potatoes were so I could climb up
the hill"
"Huh?" Adam and Joe wondered
"This is nuts!" Joe smiled to the reflection in his cup of coffee
"Hoss, forget about it. It's just a silly dream. Those things can't
happen. Let's.."
Adam crossed his legs
"So if everybody was naked what were you?" Joe teased
"I was a giant hot dog running after a doughnut..."
Adam was non-plussed
"Who's the doughnut?"
"Bessie Sue" Hoss quipped
"Ah! that explains it all!" Now let me tell you,brother" Adam drolled
"You were having a dream. Dreams don't mean a thing."
"But it sure was real" Hoss nodded
"
"Sure it was real. To you" Adam said matter-of-factly
"Now lets put all this silliness aside and get down to work."
Joe couldn't contain himself He wanted to laugh so hard that his hat would
tumble off his head but for this once, he tried to hold it in. Joe stood
up from the log he was perched on and felt the warmth of the sun on his
back Adam reached for his hat.
Quickly, they looked at each other a bit puzzled. Neither had a shirt, but
Hoss was fully dressed.
"I told you, didn't I?" Hoss said
